Porirua City Council
Aquatic & Recreation Centre
With a modest budget this project required creative architecture – exemplified in simple, warehouse structure colourfully enhanced with a nautical theme. It involved the creation of a multi-sports complex including the renovation for an existing Sports Hall and associated change areas and the addition of an Aquatic Complex. The pool area includes a 25 meter lane pool, leisure pool with wave machine. Front of House facilities include a successful cafeteria and childcare facility for 20 children. The new building joins forces with the existing recreation centre, making this a highly focused, multi-sports venue. Further work to the Aquatic Centre involved S&T upgrading the treatment plant to near 100% ozone.
Following on from the Aquatic centre project and years of conceptual work with the Porirua City Council, S&T completed Te Rauparaha Arena, a new leisure facility replacing the existing sports hall. The new facility contains: a 2,000 seat 3-court gymnasium, a one court gymnasium, a commercial gymnasium facility, conferencing facilities, a small theatrette and a fitness gymnasium.
The new Arena has exceeded everyone’s expectations with a facility that is fully booked for months ahead from the day it opened.
