Friday the 4th of November also marked the IESANZ 2016 International Awards, in which S&T’s 45 Queen Street ANZ Bank Façade lighting project had been nominated after taking home two Awards of Excellence during the Chapter rounds last year. This time around it was the international arena that was won over by the colourful creation devised by the Ignite Architects and Stephenson & Turner’s Lighting Engineers. The distinctive façade design received an Award of Excellence in the IES Lighting Design: Australia & NZ category.
The 45 Queen Street Project utilised LED lighting to transform an aged building into a location befitting its high-end retails tenants. Inspired by its former foreshore location, a wave pattern and backlit portal glass reinforces the water element of the atrium corner, while Pohutukawa flower patterns and the iconic Harbour Board ‘Red Fence’ are referenced in other areas of the architecture. A seven metre high steel rod feature screen fills the gap in the urban fabric between the tower and the historic Custom House completing the look of this podium and setting the tone of this luxury precinct.
