Securing a Christchurch home for Stephenson&Turner was no easy job but not in the usual way. As designers ourselves we have a definite understanding of what makes or breaks an office and know most ‘modern’ buildings don’t begin to compare. Working in a city that has lost so much of it's heritage and is being regenerated with new air-conditioned ‘box’ offices, we have a strong, opposing desire to be in a ‘character’ building and in the city’s new heart: something that speaks to the past while looking to the future. Unfortunately, this is a combination that is not so common in our Garden City but fortunately for us, not everyone shares our vision of space - yet. Our search is over and after 3 years of shared, cramped and dysfunctional temporary space, S&T Christchurch are pleased to be calling 102 Cashel St, 'home'.
After the 2011 earthquakes, S&T were keen to play a supportive role in the rebuild of the city and were passionate about assisting as many people as possible back into their homes quickly and efficiently. The team of young motivated architects and graduates have worked with this goal in their hearts. With the collaboration of S&T’s Auckland and Wellington offices they have already assisted in making this happen for well over 300 families throughout Christchurch.
We really want to be in a place that reflects who we are as designers – what makes us different. To us, a great studio space absolutely must include better than ‘ample’ natural light, fresh air and the ability to have an inspiring workspace that encourages communication. 102 Cashel St was the obvious choice, the last standing ‘old’ building in Cashel Mall with huge potential to reflect the spirit of our Christchurch office. Careful planning and numerous discussions have resulted in an office environment that encourages the synergy of creativity between our team and the people we work with: our clients and co-designers.
Once upstairs prepare to be welcomed by a team of people that genuinely love what they do and have fun doing it. The foosball holds pride of place and the team are always on the lookout for a challenge! We might even let you win.
Since October 1st 2014, S&T Christchurch has been in this great building, in one of Christchurch’s new iconic spots and as an added bonus a stone’s throw from Re:START. Pop by anytime for a great coffee, a game of foosball or a chat – our doors are always open!
Please join S&T’s valued friends and colleagues for the revealing of our exciting new Christchurch design studio in heart of the city.
Beer, wine and nibbles will be provided.
