The Property Council Awards 2011 has added two more outstanding projects to Stephenson&Turner’s impressive record of design for award winning buildings. Auckland International Airport was recognised for Excellence in the Retail Property Award and Newcrest Group’s NZI Centre was awarded an Excellence in the Green Building Property Award.

The Auckland International Airport project has seen the gateway to New Zealand transformed into a vibrant and valuable retail space which welcomes visitors with an engaging ambience and international class facilities. As the architects of this award winning project, S&T is delighted to have been associated with Auckland International Airport for over 20 years, continuously delivering to the needs of a complex environment that incorporates both secure and public spaces while providing functional amenities that the whole country can take pride in.

The NZI Centre is a shining example of how a focus on green building design through extensive predictive modelling can and does result in outstanding standards of environmental sustainability. Newcrest Group wanted sustainability built into their development and we took up the design challenge. S&T’s engineers developed complex thermal comfort and energy utilisation models well before construction commenced to both inform the building’s design and to project the performance of the building once occupied. Further, our fire engineers created design solutions for the building which allowed the open floor plan and atrium of the building to provide an enjoyable and highly productive working environment.

Getting the design right has provided tenants NZI with a 5 Star GreenStar rated office and a chance to shift their business in a sustainable direction.
