Les Mills Extreme, Wellington
For 10 years Les Mills had occupied the upper four floors at their current site on Taranaki Street and really wanted a ground-floor location to make an impact at street level.
When the ground floor finally became available, Les Mills were keen to ensure that the entrance area reflected their high energy business. They approached S&T to create a high-visibility entrance, reception and cafe area which would lighten up their entry point and free up some much needed gym space on the first floor. The company was keen to ensure that this new area reflected its bold, bright and energetic ‘Unleash Yourself’ brand while delivering an experience to help attract and retain customers of all ages and fitness levels.
S&T's design takes a free-flowing, curvilinear approach in everything from the undulating, free-form ceilings to the flooring, furniture, graphics and other interior details. Visitors now enter the building much closer to the main entry which makes it possible to provide a line of surveillance and security as well as the essential ‘meet and greet’ function. The vibrant and colourful “Exertainment” environment funnels gymgoers down the central axis, past the reception activity and retail areas and upwards to the workout facilities. The stairway was relocated to enable better traffic flow and improved both the sales centre and café positions – the latter's outlook boosting its own identity and aiding in making the most of its premium street-front position.
