Horncastle Arena

This project involves seismic strengthening subsequent to the Christchurch Earthquakes in 2010 and 2011. It demonstrates our team’s ability to carry out complex works in a fully functioning sport and entertainment venue. All work had to be thoroughly and seamlessly integrated into the existing design and be largely carried out between events.

A close working relationship between architect, structural engineer, services engineer and contractor was critical to achieve the end results with minimum interruption. Heavily reliant on skilled and experienced people in all roles.

Much of the work is carried out in plantrooms and roofspace where working space is restricted, so a flexible approach from all team members was required. To assist with this, a pointcloud survey was utilised, positioning all the existing structure and services precisely in 3D, allowing the design team to consider implications with ease.
